COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

State, Civic, Military, & Veterans Affairs

I am honored to serve as Chair on the State, Civic, Military, & Veterans Affairs committee where we evaluate many areas of state government. This committee reviews election-related matters and oversees campaign finance issues. It also serves as the legislative oversight for the departments of State and Military and Veterans Affairs.

Judiciary

I spent my legal career fighting on behalf of workers and families and I continue that fight in the state legislature on the Judiciary committee. Judiciary covers a wide range of issues facing the legal community, like matters concerning courts and judges, as well as oversight of the correctional system, prison facilities, and juvenile justice. On this committee, we also review issues concerning Colorado's constitution, revising any statues, and homeland security.

Last session I was appointed to serve on two committees: Rural Affairs and Agriculture and State Veterans and Military Affairs. On State Affairs we've confronted a number of controversial proposals, including a slate of 6 anti-LGBTQ+ pieces of legislation that would have banned gay marriage and gay adoption, as well as a bill that would have imprisoned doctors who treat our trans youth. It is an honor and a privilege to be in a position to vote down these regressive, draconian measures. On Rural Affairs bi-partisanship reigns, and we've had great success advancing bills aimed at protecting water sources and combating forest fires in rural Colorado.

I've also had the honor of signing on as a co-sponsor of the CROWN Act, which protects certain historical hairstyles associated with race against discrimination, as well as the Colorado Partnership for Quality Jobs and Services Act, a historic bill that allows our state employees to collectively bargain.  Additionally I signed on as a co-sponsor to repeal the death penalty in Colorado.
